It’s Safe Work Month and that means anyone – in any role – can be a champion for safety and health in their workplace.

Safety will always be at our core and it starts with each and every one of us looking out for ourselves and others.

Getting to know you – John Gibson

What project are you currently part of?

I have been working on certain aspects of the mobility project. At the moment, I’m concentrating on crew facing applications related to shift swapping and roster view.

So people will soon be able to swap shifts via an app on their iPad?

That’s correct. The app we are currently developing will enable swaps to be made quickly, easily and transparently. It’s an exciting piece of work that has been led by Crew for Crew.

Sydney Metro: Five things you should know

1. The first stage of Sydney Metro, Sydney Metro North West opened on Sunday, 26 May 2019. Works have started for Stage 2 with Sydney Metro City & Southwest expected to be complete in 2024.

2. Sydney Trains and NSW Trains are working alongside Sydney Metro and Transport for NSW to deliver Stage 2 of the Metro Project which is being built by Laing O’Rourke, John Holland, Macquarie Group and Lendlease.

The people’s champion

On Tuesday 15 October, Guard Trainer Emmanuel Tolentino was announced as the winner in the People’s Choice category at the Sydney Trains Excellence Awards ceremony.

20 candidates were in the running for the award with voting open for a two week period.

Emmanuel becomes the first ever recipient of the award and it recognises his quick thinking to wave emergency hand signals to a Driver to stop a train prior to it reaching a distressed customer.
