A picture of health

Inspiration comes in many different forms, but for Crew based at North Sydney it takes the shape of Train Guard Susanna Simic.

Once in a very high risk weight category, the unassuming Guard has slimmed down considerably and remains firmly committed to losing even more.

“I have come a long way and I feel great for it,” said Susanna.

“My confidence has improved significantly and I have so much more energy now than I did 18 months ago.”

New cohort of volunteers lifts number of peer supporters to 104

Over the last four months 58 Train Crew have completed their training to become a Peer Supporter, a volunteer role designed to assist those involved in critical incidents on the network.

Lifting the total number of peer supporters to 104, this cohort is made up of Drivers and Guards from all three sectors.

Associate Director Central Matthew Quinn led the recent training and he believes the benefit of having more people ready to lend support to their co-workers cannot be understated.

And the winners of a TC&S Excellence Award are…

The Train Crewing and Support Excellence Awards ceremony was held earlier this week with 28 people across the directorate recognised.

The awards were divided into six new categories – Safety First, Customer Focus, Continuous Improvement, Exceeding Expectations, Think Team and Leading from the Front.

Executive Director Train Crewing and Support Hayden Donoghue hosted the event and said the achievements of the award winners were nothing short of extraordinary.

“Every person recognised today was thoroughly deserving of an award,” said Hayden.

“The efforts of this group went a long way in making our operations safer or improving our ways of working.

“From both an organisational and customer perspective, we are very appreciative of each winner’s actions and/or great work.

The new employee portal aims to include some great features like personalisation, the ability to follow or subscribe to pages, and digital interactions with colleagues and content, such as liking, sharing and commenting.

Mind the gap: International Women’s Day events draw attention to gender equality issues

Across the directorate last week, countless discussions were held to find ways to get better balance between men and women at Sydney Trains.

From Mortdale to Penrith, International Women’s Day (IWD) events took place to recognise gender equality achievements and uncover opportunities for further improvement.

Shift Manager Leisa Jarvis helped set up an event at Penrith depot and she believes it provided the team with a chance to reflect on their approach to gender diversity.

“This morning was a wonderful opportunity to hear about how the culture of our organisation has changed over the years,” said Leisa

“There is a genuine desire for gender balance here as we believe it will make our workplace an even better environment for everyone.
